Japanese Sumi-E Painting: July 14, 21, 28; 10:00am - 3:00 pm

Introduction and advanced practice in this Japanese brush painting art form. It takes only a little time to learn the basic strokes and once learned it takes practice to perfect them. This course will include both as learning through practice. We will begin with simple strokes that result in flowers, grasses, and leaves. We will progress to addition of trees, bamboo, rocks, and birds. We will end with full landscapes including mountains, streams, and lakes.  The class meets for three sessions July 14, 21, and 28 from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.  Each session builds in skill and practice each week.  

INSTRUCTOR: George Leone has taught Sumi-e painting through Continuing Education at UNM for the past 9 years. He has practiced sumi-e painting since 1971.
